A glimps of our fading traditions, culture, and language.

Some things that i read, noticed, in today's generation, our advancing technology, capitalism, consumerism, has a deep impact on our traditions, culture, our language as the Dine', it is fading. Not only just in my culture, but all cultures around the world. I think that rituals and traditions are very important for every culture. They’re how we pass down our culture’s heritage and history. Without them, we loose something. That’s why it’s so important that we, as a society, take measures to preserve dying languages and cultures. It’s valuable to everyone to learn about all sorts of cultures, but I believe it’s especially important for people to have a connection with their own heritage. There’s a real value to be gained from knowing the history and traditions of one’s own people—it lets you feel connected to your ancestors. A sense of cultural pride can be very empowering to young people. I think that the people living in Navajo Nation who work to preserve the Navajo language and traditions have the right idea. People should be able to succeed in the modern world without assimilating to the point that they lose their identity. Be proud of who you are, and teach your kids, all children the importance of who they truly are.
